The Saudi German Hospitals Group (SGH) is building a private medical college complex, which is to be the largest in the Middle East.
Prince Mishaal Bin Majed Bin Abdul Aziz, the Governor of Jeddah, laid the foundation stone for the project at Obhur, northern Jeddah, on Saturday night, according to a report published by Arab News.
SGH President and Chief Executive Officer, Sobhi A. Batterjee, said that the project, which is to be based on a 100,000 square-metre plot of land, will have five colleges - medical, nursing, radiology, laboratory and dental. The project will have education and training facilities initially for 1,800 students, with separate departments for boys and girls.
Batterjee said that he is confident the project will be completed on schedule due to excellent cooperation between private and government sectors.
The project, one of the first in the Kingdom’s private sector, will have college buildings, housing for teaching staff and students, mosques and recreation centres. The colleges will work in cooperation with Germany’s Heidelberg University.
Batterjee said that the SGH reflects an embodiment of the strong cooperation between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Germany. “All SGH hospitals have the benefit of German expertise, with their specialists available for consultation and visiting the Kingdom’s hospitals regularly,” he said.
