The Kingdom’s General Mufti, Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Abdullah Al Al-Sheikh, described yesterday’s gathering of a number of individuals in Olaya district, Riyadh, as a provocative act to promote civil disorder.
In a statement published today by the Riyadh-based Al-Jazeerah newspaper, Al Al-Sheikh said that the gathering in Riyadh did not express the majority view in Saudi society. He said that organizing such gatherings and provoking a state of chaos in society contravenes Muslim ethics and approved conduct, according to which Muslims are highly respectful and loyal to their leaders.
Al-Sheikh said that citizens should make demands by submitting them through official legal channels, in which case they will be respected and considered by Saudi officials who serve the interests of citizens. Officials would always consider reasonable requests or demands, he said, urging the nation to promote the “good” in the interest of all citizens through effective legal means.
