The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through its seven development plans has accomplished remarkable development achievements. It was able to implement its infrastructure projects and realize significant social and economic development, but these achievements have not been at the expense of its deep-rooted Islamic values.

In the educational sector the Kingdom has made great strides. During the academic year 1422/1423 the number the students at the various educational stages amounted to more than 5.3 million. The number of the students of the schools of the Education

Ministry in 1423 AH amounted to more than 2.36 million at 13,849 schools with 189,303 teachers. As regards, female students, their number at the various educational stages amounted to more than 2.37 million at 14,461 educational institutions with about 228,000 female teachers. Meanwhile, the Kingdom's universities and teachers' training colleges, polytechnic colleges and health colleges and institutes include 502,000 students with 20,000 teachers.

In the health sector, the number of hospitals amounted in 1423 H to about 320 with 46,048 beds. There were 229 governmental hospitals. These governmental hospitals are supported by 1,766 primary health care centers.

The number of the physicians amounted to 31,402, while the number of nurses amounted to about 67,000.

The length of the roads amounted in 1420 AH to about 152,000 kilometers. They included 45,500 kilometers of asphalted roads and 107,000 kilometers of agricultural roads.

The number of wharves at the Kingdom's ports amounted in 1420 AH to 183, while the number of the airports amounted to 25, including three international airports.

In 2000, the Saudi Arabian airline (SAA) carried more than 13.5 million passengers. The SAA's fleet included 139 planes, and more than 2,000 pilots, 900 of whom are Saudis.

In 1420 the number of telephone lines reached 3,848,914. The number of the telex exchanges in 1418/1419 amounted to more than 20,000, while the number of the postal offices amounted to 731.

In the field of Electricity, the generation capacity in 1422H amounted to 23,730 megawatts.

Thanks to the Kingdom's wise agricultural policy, the country has attained food security in most of the agricultural commodities. Agricultural crops amounted to about 2.3 million tons, while fresh vegetables amounted to 1.9 million tons.

In the field of water sector, the Kingdom set up 27 saline water conversion stations.

These stations produced in 1420/1421H more than 827 million cubic meters of desalinated water.

In the industrial sector, the number of the productive factories amounted in 1422 AH to 3,566 with an invested capital of more than SR 245 billion.

In Makkah and Madinah, the Kingdom has spent more than SR70 billion in recent years on development projects, including the expansion projects at the two Holy Mosques.

The Madinah-based King Fahd Holy Quran Printing Complex is one of biggest printing centers in the World. It produced more than 170 million copies of the Holy Quran up to Safar, 1422 AH.

The number of the sports clubs in the Kingdom amounted to 156 in 1419/1420, while the number of the literary clubs amounted to 12 in the same year.
