14Sep2003 Heroin smuggler beheaded

Hafar Al-Batin, Saudi Arabia, 14th September 2003

Saudi national, Zahir bin Thamir bin Nahar Al-Shammari, was beheaded here on Sunday, after he was convicted of smuggling heroin into the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, a statement released by the Interior Ministry said.

The culprit was convicted by the Shariah Court, and the verdict was approved by the Cassation Court and the Supreme Judicial Council.

The statement confirmed the determination of the Saudi Government severely to punish criminals, and to enforce law and order in the Kingdom.
