Prince Abdel Majeed bin Abdul Aziz, the Governor of Makkah Region, will inaugurate the Exhibition of Arab Industries here on Saturday 13 September 2003.
Stressing the importance of the Exhibition, Abdullah bin Mara’ei bin Mahfouz, Deputy Chairman of the National Committee for Saudi Exhibition Companies, said a seminar, which will be organized on the fringes of the Exhibition, is to review international developments in industrial sectors, and means of advancing Arab industries in the light of ongoing international changes and developments.
The Arab League Secretary General, Amr Mousa, and a number of ministers concerned with Arab industrial affairs, will attend the seminar. The ministers of industry, businessmen and experts due to participate in the seminar will discuss means to attract investment and obstacles that potential investors face.
The seminar will focus on the role of industry in economic development, developing Arab industry in the light of international changes, Arab integration in the industrial sector, and the potential role of Chambers of Commerce and Industry in updating and advancing industry.
Mohammed Siman, supervisor of the seminar’s organizing committee, said that the Exhibition and seminar would promote enhancement of the Saudi economy in general, and the economic status of Jeddah in particular.
Siman said that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia constitutes one of the most important economies in the region, and that the Saudi private sector has played a pioneering role in boosting the process of economic development. He noted that the total number of the Kingdom’s productive factories has reached approximately 3,450, with an invested capital of SR250 billion. The Kingdom’s industrial products are marketed in 120 countries of the world.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia receives the most investment out of Arab countries, its share being SR721 million, followed by Sudan at SR554.9 million, and then Algeria at SR350 million.
