07Sep2003 Health Ministry issues preventative health measures for pilgrims

Riyadh, 7th September 2003

The Ministry of Health on Sunday issued medical regulations pertaining to the health of those who would like to perform Hajj this year from within the Kingdom or abroad.

In a press statement issued today, the Ministry of Health said that people coming from yellow-fever infected countries are requested to present a vaccination certificate against this contagious disease.

All countries will be informed of the need for pilgrims to be vaccinated against cerebrospinal fever, and those who do not abide by this obligation will have to bear the consequences. Checks will take place to determine that all those arriving on pilgrimage have been vaccinated against cerebrospinal fever within at least ten days of their arrival, or within a period that does not exceed three years.

There will be strict medical surveillance at the Kingdom’s borders, to guarantee caution against those coming from countries affected by SARS, yellow fever, cerebrospinal fever, and dengue fever.

Pilgrims from within the Kingdom will receive the preventive medicines and quadruple vaccines.
