Prince Sultan Bin Abdul Aziz, the Second Deputy Premier and Minister of Defence and Aviation, will attend an international conference on date palms at King Khaled Cultural Centre in Buraidah on 16 September.
Scientists and specialists in date-palm planting, and date production and processing, have been invited to take part in the four-day event, which will take place on the sidelines of a date festival.
The conference will be organized by King Saud University, represented by its College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, in collaboration with the Qasim Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Dean of the College, Dr Sulaiman Al-Yahya, said that there have not been sufficient research studies conducted to find ways of improving the production of dates and to maximize their economic profitability. “The conference will provide a forum for exchange of experience and knowledge of the latest developments and scientific achievements in the field, and will focus particularly on improving production, marketing and processing of dates,” he said.
Abdulrahman Al-Salamah, Director General of the Qasim International Exhibition Company (QIECO), told Arab News that the exhibition is a great opportunity for date producers in Qasim to display their dates and date-related products. The Kingdom produces 850,000 tons of dates annually.
