Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz, Deputy Premier and Commander of the National Guard, arrived from Morocco on Tuesday for an official visit to Russia.
He was received by Deputy Premier Vladimir Yakovlev, and a number of high-ranking officials, at the airport.
The Crown Prince is accompanied by an official delegation which consists of Prince Nawaf bin Abdul Aziz, the president of the General Intelligence, Prince Saud Al-Faisal, the Foreign Minister, and a number of princes, cabinet ministers and other senior officials.
In a statement to Saudi Press Agency (SPA), Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Russia, Mohammad Hassan Abdul-Wali, stressed the importance of Crown Prince Abdullah’s visit to Russia. “It is the first summit meeting between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Russia,” he said. He noted that important talks would be held between the Crown Prince and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“The visit coincides with critical events and developments in international and Middle Eastern arenas, which will feature in the agenda of talks between the Crown Prince and the Russian President.”
The Ambassador said that agreements to be signed during the visit reflect the joint interests of the two countries in oil, trade, economic, and other important sectors. He stressed that future relations between the two countries are “promising”, and ensure accomplishments in various fields.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Alexander Sultanouv, said that the visit of the Crown Prince would boost relations between the two countries. Itar-Tass news agency quoted the official, saying: “This visit will accord great importance to developing cooperation between the two countries. The visit will strengthen political ties for dealing with regional and international issues of concern.”
