01Sep2003 International Mosques Council deplores Israeli policy of aggression

Makkah, 1st September 2003

The International Supreme Mosques Council denounced Israel’s policy and repressive measures against the Palestinian people. The Council, which is currently holding its 19th session in Makkah, reiterated that Al-Quds (Jerusalem) should remain an Arab, Islamic city.

In a statement released here on Monday, the Council condemned Israeli attempts to Judaize Al-Quds, and said that Israeli measures in this regard run contrary to resolutions of the international community.

The Council made clear that Al-Aqsa Mosque has a special place in the hearts and minds of Muslims worldwide; therefore, any attempt by Israel to change its character will provoke dissent and anger among Muslims.

The Council called upon Islamic official and popular organizations to launch an international campaign against the Israeli policy in occupied Palestinian territories. It highlighted the unwavering support extended by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the Palestinian people, and its efforts to protect Al-Aqsa Mosque.
