04Aug2003 Praise for Saudi relief aid to Iraq

Baghdad, 4th August 2003

Dr Jamal Nassir Al-Karbooli, Chairman of the Iraqi Red Crescent Society, described the Saudi relief program for the Iraqi people as the biggest contribution of humanitarian aid to Iraq thus far, saying that it reflects the determination of the Kingdom’s government to extend assistance to the needy in Iraq and alleviate their suffering.

In a statement to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), Al-Karbooli said that over 700,000 Iraqi families have benefited from the Saudi relief program.

Eight relief convoys have reached post-war Iraq from the Kingdom, carrying foodstuffs, mineral water, vital equipment, food baskets, and 50 ambulances.

He said that the movable 200-bed hospital administered by the Kingdom has provided medical services for thousands of patients, and performed complicated surgical operations. Thirty patients who were in grave conditions have been transferred to hospitals in the Kingdom to receive advanced medical treatment.
