04Aug2003 Saudi Aramco set to initiate work of $900 million straddle plant

Dhahran, 4th August 2003

Saudi Aramco has initiated the bidding process for the straddle plant and the expansion of the Hawiyah and Juaymah gas plants. The projects will cost an estimated $1,300 million, Saudi Gazette reported today.

The largest project in the program is for the $900 million straddle plant, which will have capacity to treat 3,800 cubic feet per day (cf/d). The facility will principally handle natural gas liquids (NGL) from the Haradh and Hawiyah gas plants. Additional input is expected from development of non-associated gas, in what was initially termed CV-1 of the now abandoned gas initiative.

Aramco is also seeking to select project management consultants for the expansion of the 1,600 million cubic feet per day Hawiyah gas plant. This project would expand the capacity of the Hawiyah plant by an additional 800,000 cf/d. The capacity of the 600,000 barrels per day Juaymah gas fractionation plant would also be increased, following completion of the project.

Saudi Aramco is pursuing negotiations with international oil companies on the estimated $3,000 million Rabigh refinery and ethane cracker project. A propane dehydrogenation unit has also been envisaged as part of the project, for the production of polypropylene.
