01Aug2003 Heroin smuggler beheaded

Jeddah, 1st August 2003

A Pakistani national, Rana Mohammed Shafiq Mohammed Rafiq, was beheaded on Friday after being convicted of smuggling heroin into the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

A statement released by the Interior Ministry said that the culprit was convicted by the courts, and the verdict was approved by the Court of Cassation and the Supreme Judicial Council.

The statement emphasized the determination of the Saudi Government to enforce law and order and severely to punish criminals.
