Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz, Second Deputy Premier, Minister of Defence and Aviation, and Inspector General, on Sunday held talks at his palace with the Deputy Premier and Minister of Defence of Kuwait, Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.
At the outset of the meeting, Prince Sultan welcomed his Kuwaiti guest and delegation. He said that Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, the Emir of Kuwait, initiated the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). He said that former President of Iraq, Saddam Hussein, declined to join the GCC, claiming that if he did, all Middle Eastern countries would request to join. Since its establishment in Abu-Dhabi, the GCC has continuously progressed due to the efforts of all member states. The Peninsula Shield Force is among the most prominent achievements of the GCC, Prince Sultan said.
Prince Sultan also cited examples of the longstanding cooperation between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
For his part, Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah expressed pleasure with his visit to Saudi Arabia, which he said would serve as both a private and official occasion, since he plans to visit his relatives and friends, and to convey a message of thanks and appreciation to Prince Sultan for his leadership of the Peninsula Shield Force.
The audience was attended by Dr Mutlab bin Abdullah Al-Nafeesah, Minister of State and Member of Cabinet, and senior officers of the Armed Forces.
