A State Department spokesman today praised Saudi Arabia’s cooperation to the ongoing war on terrorism, saying that Washington and Riyadh “have worked increasingly closely” since the 11 September, 2001, terrorist attacks on the Pentagon and New York, and the Riyadh bombing in May.
“We have worked very closely with the Saudi government against terrorism,” said State Department spokesman Richard Boucher.
The U.S. has found Saudi intelligence and law enforcement cooperation “increasingly beneficial and increasingly effective” in the fight against terrorism, Boucher said.
“We have a very high level of law enforcement and intelligence cooperation with the Saudi government, which is acting against terrorist financing, and to combat terrorist networks,” he said. He cited the recent arrests of terrorist suspects in the Kingdom as an indication of determined Saudi action against terrorism.
