Jeddah, 23rd July 2003

Crown Prince Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz, Deputy Premier and Commander of the National Guard, approved a budget of SR7 billion over the next five years to meet the requirements of public utility services in Jeddah city, Al-Madinah reported.

Jeddah Mayor, Eng. Abdullah Al-Muallami, said that the money would enable the port city to resolve its sewage and groundwater problem, and to build two roads connecting east and west Jeddah.

The Mayor told Al-Madinah that the Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs signed three contracts worth a total of SR85 million to fund projects to resolve Jeddah’s groundwater problem, the results of which would be visible in two years. Over the next five years the city will find alternatives to pumping raw sewage into the sea.
