An Interior Ministry statement today said that Saudi authorities foiled terrorist plots to attack vital installations in the Kingdom, and arrested a number of suspected terrorists, after searching their havens in farms and homes in Riyadh, Qasim and the Eastern Province.
“The farms and houses included underground warehouses which contained a number of bags, weighing over 20 tons, full of chemical substances designed to make explosives,” the statement said. “The authorities found numerous large boxes buried underground, which contained arms, including: 72 kilograms of the explosive material RDX; an explosive match cord 981 meters long; 524 electric sparks; a number of machine-guns; 18 RPG’s with five launchers; night vision binoculars; sewing machines for sewing the bags; communication devices; computer disks; donation collection boxes; SR300,000, and motorbikes and cars prepared to carry out terrorist operations.
Sixteen people were arrested in connection to the terrorist cells. Security authorities are pursuing others suspected of involvement with the groups.
“The Interior Ministry is exerting all possible efforts to locate and arrest all terrorist suspects, and will take strict action against those supporting terrorism,” the statement concluded.
