20Jul2003 King Fahd receives Syrian President Al-Asad

Jeddah, 20th July 2003

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz on Sunday received President of Syria Dr Bashar Al-Asad and his accompanying delegation at Al-Salam Palace in Jeddah.

King Fahd welcomed his guest, wishing him a pleasant and profitable stay in the Kingdom. President Al-Asad expressed his appreciation and gratitude for the warm reception accorded him by his Saudi hosts.

During the meeting, they reviewed recent developments in Arab and international arenas, particularly the situation in Palestine, and means of enhancing efforts to implement the peace plan.

Regarding the situation in Iraq, King Fahd and President Al-Asad expressed their hopes for the imminent return of peace and security in the country, and for the establishment of a legitimate government to ensure Iraqi unity, sovereignty and independence. The two sides also discussed bilateral relations.

Ambassador to the Kingdom.
