Jeddah, 19th July 2003

Iran has issued over 15,000 visas for Saudi tourists during the past 20 days, according to a senior Iranian diplomat in Riyadh.

“Large numbers of Saudi tourists wish to spend their vacations in Iran, so the Iranian Embassy has decided to offer facilities to enhance their travel experiences,” said Charge d’Affaires, Alireza Enayati, who was quoted by the Tehran Times.

A significant number of tourists from Gulf countries have shown an interest in travelling to Iran in recent years, according to a report published today by Arab News.

Alireza Enayati stressed that the Iranian Embassy in Riyadh and the Consulate in Jeddah are issuing visas for Saudi tourists free of charge this year.

Noting the interest shown by Saudi tourists in travelling to Iran, Enayati said: “Iran Air recently increased its weekly flights from Iran to Dammam in eastern Saudi Arabia. Saudi tourists can travel to the cities of Tehran, Shiraz, and Mashhad on direct flights from Dammam,” he added.
