23Jun2003 Kingdom adopts Information Technology to promote development goals

The Minister of Telecommunications and Information Technology, Eng. Mohammad Jameel bin Ahmad Mulla, on Monday said that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is adopting information technology in order to achieve development goals and prepare future generations to meet contemporary challenges.

In an interview with the Cairo-based ‘Alam Al-Youm’ newspaper, which was published today, he pointed out the importance of the project of Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz to provide computers for students to help them build upon their knowledge and skills.

He noted that the project was approved by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz, and is under the direct care of Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz, the Second Deputy Premier and Commander of the National Guard.

He noted the role of the private sector in encouraging domestic investment, and attracting foreign investment, in the fields of telecommunications and information technology.

Eng. Mulla said that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia would be a highly information-oriented society in the future, when technology will be utilized for the service of the individual and the community, contributing to the ideal development of resources and promoting the welfare of citizens.
