14Jun2003 SAA to transport 5million passengers this summer

Jeddah, 14th June 2003

Saudi Arabian Airlines (SAA) will transport 5,203,127 passengers on 29,120 scheduled and non-scheduled international and domestic flights this summer, Saudi Gazette reported today.

Announcing SAA’s 80-day summer program, which begins on 25 June, SAA Director General, Dr Khaled Bakr, said that domestic tourism has increased in accordance with government directives and in response to interest shown by citizens, expatriates, and nationals from other Gulf countries.

Bakr’s announcement followed a meeting of SAA executives involved in the planning and implementation of the airline’s operational plan for the summer season.

The Director General said that the plans accord with directives of Prince Sultan Bin Abdul Aziz, the Second Deputy Premier, Minister of Defence and Aviation and Inspector General.

Bakr said that, during the summer season, SAA would transport over 3,305,000 passengers on 20,483 domestic flights and 1,898,000 on 8,637 international flights. Bakr expressed hope that the high standards SAA achieved during previous Hajj and Umrah seasons will promote the success of this summer’s passenger services. He noted the launch of two programs, ‘Golden Service’ and ‘A New World of Choices,’ which are aimed to enhance passenger services. Bakr said that seat capacity on all flights would be raised to cope with the demand of Saudi students returning to the Kingdom, and expatriates taking their annual vacation.
