A conference on international law and human rights will be held in Riyadh in September 2003, organizers announced today.
Dr Abdulrahman bin Abdul Aziz Al-Suwailem, Chairman of the Saudi Red Crescent Society, which will organize the event, told the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) that the conference would discuss the theme of human rights during peace and wartime from an Islamic perspective.
He said that a number of ministries, including the Interior, Foreign and Justice Ministries, would take part in the conference, which will reflect momentum towards reform, addressed by the government of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, in the field of human rights according to the Islamic Sharia (law). He said that the conference would highlight human rights according to Islam in times of peace and war, and cast light on the Kingdom’s efforts in the field of human rights and international law.
