The Chairman of the Shoura Council, Sheikh Dr Salih bin Abdullah bin Homaid, yesterday delivered the Kingdom’s speech at the 43rd meeting of the Arab Parliamentary Federation Council, which is currently in progress.
Dr bin Homaid called for enhancing the role of the Federation to promote Arab solidarity, within the framework of the Arab League.
He expressed the Kingdom’s concerns about Iraq, emphasizing the necessity of preserving the country’s unity, independence and territorial integrity, and calling for the establishment of an interim government to pave the way for a broad-based Iraqi constitutional government.
Dr bin Homaid urged the international community to exert pressure on Israel to hasten effective implementation of all provisions of the ‘Road Map’, in accordance with the Arab peace initiative. He stressed the Israeli withdrawal from all Arab occupied territories in Lebanon and Syria, in accordance resolutions of international legitimacy, and the reconstitution of Arab rights.
Dr bin Homaid reiterated the Kingdom’s absolute rejection of all forms of terrorism, and urged a distinction between terrorism and the legitimate rights of a people to resist occupation of their lands and advocate self-determination.
