The Assistant Foreign Minister, Dr Nizar bin Obaid Madani, today delivered the Kingdom’s speech at the 30th meeting of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC), in which he reiterated the Kingdom’s rejection of all forms of violence, and stressed that terrorism is not confined to a certain religion, country or nationality.
Dr Madani also warned against exploitation of the recent criminal acts in order to attribute terrorism to Muslims. He also called for a distinction between the phenomenon of terrorism and peoples’ legitimate rights, which are guaranteed by international conventions, to self-determination and the resistance of occupation of their lands.
On the Middle East peace process, Dr Madani said that the Foreign Ministers of Islamic countries adopted the Arab peace initiative in Khartoum last year, which was endorsed by the Beirut Summit, to achieve lasting, comprehensive peace and stability for the region.
He said that the Kingdom welcomed the ‘Road Map’, which was announced by the Quartet Committee and has been accepted by the parties concerned. He expressed the Kingdom’s belief that the United Nations Security Council should adopt a resolution incorporating the ‘Road Map’ with the Arab peace initiative in order to guarantee a comprehensive, credible and effective proposal.
On the Iraq issue, Dr Madani affirmed the Kingdom’s commitment to international efforts aimed at assisting the Iraqi people, and welcomed the lifting of sanctions in accordance with the decision of the United Nations Security Council.
