26May2003 GCC Secretary General condemns acts of terrorism

Riyadh, 26th May, 2003,

Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Abdul-Rahman Al-Atiyyah has reiterated the GCC member states’ condemnation of the explosions which took place in Riyadh on May 12, 2003, and said the GCC member states do condemn all forms of terrorism .

The remarks of Al-Atiyyah came at a press conference here on Sunday evening on the occasion of the 22nd anniversary of the establishment of the GCC.

Al-Atiyyah highlighted the role of the GCC as a regional organization that works to enhance relations among its member states in the various spheres. On the issue of Iraq, Al-Atiyyah confirmed the keenness of the GCC member states on Iraq's independence, unity and sovereignty.

On the unification of the GCC currency, Al-Atiyyah said this step should be preceded by coordination in the financial and oil spheres.
