25Apr2003 No cases of SARS detected in Kingdom

Riyadh, 25th April 2003

The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health for Executive Affairs, Dr Qassem Al-Qassabi, today reiterated that no case of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) has been disclosed in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Al-Qassabi denied local press reports that suspected cases of the disease have been found in the Kingdom. He pointed out that the Ministry has been following the latest developments regarding SARS on the websites of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the U.S. Centre for Combating Diseases. He noted that a scientific team has been sent to all regions of the Kingdom to inform people on the disease, and the required precautionary measures that should be taken to prevent its spread.
