20Apr2003 Prince Salman is briefed on railways projects

Riyadh, 20 April, 2003

Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz, the governor of Riyadh region, received here on Sunday the president of the General Presidency of the Railways and the chairman of the committee of the railways expansion Eng. Khalid Al-yahia and members of the committee.

During the reception, Prince Salman was briefed on the proposed projects in the transportation sector for the railways which includes the east and west railway line which links Jeddah Islamic port with King Abdulaziz and King Fahd ports in Dammam and Al-Jubail.

The new railway line will be of 1,061 kilometers long and it will carry about 8 million tons of container annually.

The project will be the initial stage for the railways projects that link the Kingdom and the states of the Arabian Gulf in the north and south.

The link between the Saudi railways networks and the Jordanian networks and other Arab, Turkish and European networks will be considered at the end of the project of the railway line between the north and the south.
