11Apr2003 Saudi press comments on Iraq crisis

Riyadh, 11th April 2003

Al-Bilad newspaper stressed the need for a unified Arab stand to save the Iraqi people from on-going calamity following the invasion of their country by U.S. and British forces.

Al-Madinah newspaper said that the U.S. war on Iraq is not yet over, and that the second stage of the war has just begun. “Washington cannot win this war without proving its good intention, and its sincere desire to restore peace and security to the troubled Middle East region,” the paper said.

Al-Riyadh newspaper made a comparison between the disappearance of Bin Laden and that of Saddam Hussein. “After the disappearance of Bin Laden, the disappearance of Saddam is ironic. However, the case of Saddam is different to that of Bin, because Saddam can be bargained with at an international level. Saddam was a head of a state who killed his own, and other, peoples, and has state secrets that bear significant influence on international affairs,” it said.
