09Apr2003 SRO modernizes railway coaches

As part of the company’s long-term fleet modernization program, Saudi Railways Organization (SRO) has put into service 29 refurbished coaches, which have a total of 1,500 seats.

The Governor of the Eastern Province, Prince Mohammed bin Fahd, on Tuesday officially inaugurated the launch of the new coaches, according to a report published today by ‘Saudi Gazette’.

Khaled Yahya, President of SRO, and senior government officials attended the inauguration ceremony. The railroad company has ordered the refurbishment of 58 coaches, including the 29 that were put into service.

Prince Mohammed said that all of the company’s renovation and modernization projects have been carried out by Saudi companies employing Saudi nationals.
