The Arab and Islamic Studies Institute at Exeter University, UK, today held a Symposium entitled “Saudi Arabia and the West: Effects of 11 September” in cooperation with Ministry of Higher Education.
In a brief statement at the opening session of the symposium, the Saudi Ambassador to United Kingdom and Ireland, Prince Turki Al-Faisal, spoke about changes taking place in the Kingdom to keep pace with modern times.
The Minister of Higher Education, Dr Khalid Al-Anqari, then delivered a speech in which he stressed the importance of dialogue which takes into account the values, views and aspirations of all sides. He stressed the importance of relations between the Kingdom and the West in general and Britain in particular.
The Director of Exeter University, Professor Steve Smith, addressed the opening session. He stressed the importance of studying and tackling the real causes behind the events of 11 September, such as the Palestinian issue.
The first session of the Symposium was then held. It focused on Saudi-U.S. relations after the events of 11 September. Those who spoke during the session included Member of the Shoura Council, Dr Othman Al-Rawaf, Dr Abdulkareem Al-Dakheel of King Saud University and Dr Grid Munaman of Lancaster University.
