11Mar2003 Crown Prince patronizes water project opening ceremony

Al-Shoaibah, Saudi Arabia, 11th March 2003

Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz, Deputy Premier and Commander of the National Guard, today patronized the opening ceremony of the second phase of the water desalination and electric power project at Al-Shoaibah, which have capacity of 100 million gallons of water and 340 megawatts of electricity per day, and the project of the desalinated water delivery system for Makkah, Jiddah and Taif.

Upon arrival at the venue of the two projects, the Crown Prince was received by Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz, the Second Deputy Premier, Minister of Defence and Aviation and Inspector General; Prince Abdulmajeed bin Abdul Aziz, Governor of Makkah Region; Dr Ghazi bin Abdulrahman Al-Qusaibi, Minister of Water and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Water Desalination Corporation, and Abdullah bin Abdulrahman Al-Husayen, Governor of the Water Desalination Corporation.

A speech ceremony was held on the occasion, at which both Al-Qusaibi and Al-Husayen addressed the gathering. Al-Hsayen said that the project would double the quantity of desalinated water supplied to Makkah and Taif and raise the supply to Jiddah by 60%. He said that Al-Shoaibah is now the second largest of the Kingdom’s 30 water desalination plants. The ceremony was attended by a number of princes and officials.
