09Mar2003 MEPA official opens Emergency Unit

Jiddah, 9th March 2003

Prince Turki bin Nasser bin Abdul Aziz, General President of the Meteorology and Environment Protection Agency (MEPA), inaugurated a unit designed to receive around-the-clock reports of environmental disasters, oil and chemical spillages, accidents aboard vessels, factory and store fires, and harsh weather conditions.

Prince Turki disclosed that “966” is the phone number allocated for inquiries about these reports in the case of emergency.

Prince Turki affirmed that MEPA is exerting every effort to enhance the response time of authorities to limit the risks of accidents that have detrimental consequences for the environment.
