On behalf of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz, Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz, the Second Deputy Premier, Minister of Defence and Aviation and Inspector General, today patronized the award ceremony of the 25th King Faisal International Prize, for the year 1423H.
At the venue, Prince Sultan, accompanied by Prince Salman bin Abdul Aziz, Governor of Riyadh Region, was received by Prince Khalid Al-Faisal bin Abdul Aziz, Governor of Asir Region, the Director General of King Faisal Charitable Foundation and Chairman of the Prize’s Panel, Prince Saad Al-Faisal bin Abdul Aziz, Prince Turki Al-Faisal, Saudi Ambassador to the United Kingdom and Ireland, and other princes.
Addressing the ceremony, Prince Khalid Al-Faisal bin Abdul Aziz said that for 25 years 161 winners from 37 countries have won prizes under the prize. He noted that the King Faisal International Prize represents an honourable example of Islamic culture, and Arab and Saudi values and intellect.
Prince Sultan delivered prizes to the winners, who were announced by Dr Abdullah Al-Salih Al-Othaimeen, the Prize’s Secretary General.
The winners are the following: Sultan bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud Charitable Foundation, for Service to Islam; Sudanese Professor Izz El-Din Omar Mousa, co-winner Moroccan Professor Ibrahim Abu Bakr Harakat, for Islamic Studies; Italian Professor Umberto Veronesi, co-winner German Professor Axel Ullrich, for Medicine: Breast Cancer; and U.S. Professor M. Fredrick Hawthorne, co-winner Japanese Professor Koji Nakanishi, for Science: Chemistry.
Following the ceremony Prince Sultan graced the dinner party held on the occasion.
