The King Faisal Centre for Islamic Research and Studies last night hosted a lecture entitled “Saudi-Uzbek Relations: A Future Perspective”. The lecture was delivered by Dr Zahedallah Menorov, Chairman of the Imam Bukhari International Fund in Tashkent.
In his lecture, Menorov described relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Uzbekistan as “historical”, and said that these ties are based on strategic interests. “There are, however, some impediments that are curbing the development of relations to the level desired by the two sides,” he noted.
He reviewed aspects of cooperation between the two countries, and lauded the support provided by the Kingdom to Muslim countries. He noted that there are a large number of Uzbek nationals residing in the Kingdom.
The lecture was attended by the Ambassadors of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan to the Kingdom, Olgbaik Israelyov and Askar Mohsenov respectively, and a number of intellectuals.
