02Mar2003 Minister of Water holds press conference

Riyadh, 2nd March 2003

The Ministry of Water is organising the 6th Gulf Conference, which is due to take place next Saturday, in cooperation with the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the Water Sciences and Technology Association. The Ministry will also organize the second Symposium on Conserving Water in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

This was announced by the Minister of Water, Dr Ghazi Al-Qusaibi, during a press conference here today.

Dr Al-Qusaibi thanked the Saudi leadership for its support of water projects, for providing water to every citizen throughout the Kingdom and for its efforts in the field of water conservation.

The Minister described water shortages faced by various countries, particularly developing countries, as disastrous. He called for the implementation of decisive measures concerning the issue of water, so that the situation in the Gulf region, notably the Kingdom, does not become critical.

Dr Al-Qusaibi stressed the extreme importance of water conservation and of the adoption of an effective method for spreading awareness in this field.
