26Feb2003 Importance of Red Crescent and Red Cross Societies amid regional tension

Tehran, 26th February 2003

The President of the Saudi Red Crescent Society, Dr Abdul-Rahman Al-Suweilim, emphasised the important role that could be played by the Red Crescent and Red Cross Societies amid the prevalent tense circumstances and developments in the region.

During a meeting with the President of the Iranian Red Crescent Society, Ahmed Noor Bala, Dr Al-Suweilim called for greater cooperation between the Red Crescent Societies in Muslim countries.

For his part, Noor Bala said that the Saudi and Iranian Red Crescent Societies should be prepared to shoulder their responsibilities in the potentially dangerous situation that could arise as a consequence of the Iraqi crisis.

Dr Al-Suweilim arrived in Tehran on Monday on a five-day visit to Iran.
