25Feb2003 Passport Department urges pilgrims to depart Kingdom after Hajj

Riyadh, 25th February 2003

The General Directorate of Passports urged pilgrims who came from abroad to perform Hajj to depart the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia after the performance of Hajj and the expiry of their visas.

In a statement released here today, the Directorate said that pilgrims who remain illegally in the kingdom after the expiry of the specified period on their visas will be violating the Kingdom’s regulations, and will therefore be subjected to penalties, including a fine of up to SR10,000, imprisonment for a maximum period of six months, or both of the above.

The statement warned the citizens and residents of the Kingdom against sheltering or employing any pilgrim, Umrah (minor pilgrimage) performer or visitor. “Violators of these regulations will be subjected to penalties and punishment in accordance with our system for residence permits.”
