25Feb2003 IDB loans to Palestinian Authority

Jiddah, 25th February 2003

Acting President of the Jiddah-based Islamic Development Bank (IDB), Muzfir bin Al-Hajj Muzfir, on Tuesday received Head of the Auditing Bureau and Governor of the Islamic Development Bank in Palestine, Jarar Numan Al-Kudwa. The two sides signed agreements between the IDB and the Palestinian National Authority.

Under the first agreement, the IDB will extend an interest-free loan of $7 million to the Palestinian National Authority. The loan will be used to finance projects due to be implemented by the Municipalities and Rural Councils in Palestine.

Under the second agreement, the IDB will extend an interest-free loan of $5 million to the Palestinian National Authority. The loan will be used to build, repair and renovate houses and buildings damaged due to Israeli aggression against the Palestinians.

The period of each loan is 30 years, including a grace period of ten years. Palestine joined the IDB in 1977.
