10Feb2003 King Fahd orders distribution of 1.7 million copies of the Holy Quran

Riyadh, 10th February 2003

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz has issued directives for the distribution of 1,770,186 copies of the Holy Quran and its interpretation in 19 languages in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and abroad.

These copies of the Holy Quran will be distributed to a number of government authorities, Saudi Embassies and Consulates and Islamic organizations within and outside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The translations of the copies of the Holy Quran, printed by the Madinah-based King Fahd Holy Quran Printing Complex, are in English, French, Indonesian, Urdu, Persian, Malibarian, Tamil, Thai, Burmese, Somalian, Turkish, Dutch, Bengali, Russian, Yoruba, German, Spanish, Albanian and Chinese.

The Minister of Islamic affairs, Endowments, Call and Guidance, Sheikh Saleh bin Abdul Aziz bin Mohammed Al Al-Sheikh, said that, in accordance with directives of the King, these copies will be provided to the following: the Hajj Ministry; guest houses at the holy sites; the Battalion of the Royal Guard for Security and Protection; the College of Education; the Kingdom’s exit points; the mosques at the holy sites; the General Presidency for Scholarly Research and Ifta; Naif Arab Academy for Security Studies; King Fahd University for Petroleum and Mineral Resources; the National Anti-Drugs Committee; and the girls’ schools for the academic year 1424/1425.

Other beneficiaries of these Royal directives are the Saudi Embassies in Jakarta, Bangkok, Hague, Budapest and Bern, the Saudi Consulate in Alexandria; the Saudi Cultural Office in Oman; the Society of Iqra Anko in Guinea; the Somalian Ministry of Justice and Religious Affairs; the Religious Committee of the National Democratic Party of Egypt; the Pavilions of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Endowments, Call and Guidance at International Book Exhibitions; the General Secretariat of the Council of State in Egypt; the Foreign Ministry in the UAE; King Fahd Academy in Bonn; the Saudi Permanent Delegation to the Arab League; the General Secretariat of Endowments in the UAE; the Pavilion of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Endowments, Call and Guidance at Cairo International Book Exhibition; the American Islamic Foundation; the Sunnah society and the Islamic Jama'a in the French Reunion Island in the Pacific Ocean.
