The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by the Ministry of Commerce, recently won the Middle East Prize for Information Technology. This reflects appreciation of the Kingdom’s keenness to raise awareness of IT and E-Commerce and its applications in order to upgrade the performance of government bodies and private sector services.
The award of the Prize was announced during the second Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Economic Forum, held in Dubai under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashed Al-Maktoum, Vice-Governor of Dubai, in the presence of GCC Secretary General Abdul-Rahman bin Hamad Al-Attiyah and a number of officials and businessmen.
On the occasion, the Minister of Commerce, Osama bin Jaafar Faqih, said that the Kingdom was the first Arab country to form a permanent national E-Commerce Committee to follow up the latest developments in this field. The Kingdom is the biggest user of IT in the Middle East, and the Saudi market is one of the world’s top six rapidly expanding markets in the field of IT.
