Riyadh, 4th February 2003

Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz, Second Deputy Premier, Minister of Defence and Aviation and Inspector General, today received senior military officers, who came to greet and congratulate him on his safe arrival in Riyadh.

The audience was attended by Prince Khaled bin Sultan bin Abdul Aziz, the Assistant Minister of Defence and Aviation for Military Affairs.

Prince Sultan urged the U.S. to respond to the events of 11 September not with wars but with positive and measured actions that respect human rights and remove terrorism and its assets.

Prince Sultan said that wisdom and rationality should prevail, in order to save Saudi Arabia and surrounding countries from issues of potential conflict.

Prince Sultan stressed that the Saudi armed forces are currently improving, and that they will be of an increasingly high standard in the future.

Commenting on the anti-Saudi media campaign, underway since last year, he said that the U.S. President and government understand the Saudi position, and that the campaign is subsiding because facts are being exposed.
