03Feb2003 King Fahd approves academic resolutions for Universities

Riyadh, 3rd February 2003

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz has approved a number of resolutions previously adopted by the Council of Higher Education at its 27th session.

In a statement to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the Minister of Higher Education, Dr Khaled Al-Anqari, said that the resolutions include the establishment of a number of University faculties, including the faculty of medicine and sciences at a branch of Umm Al-Qura in Taif Governorate, and a faculty of nursing at the branch of King Faisal University in Dammam.

The resolutions also include transforming the department of agricultural engineering at the faculty of agriculture and veterinary studies at King Saud University in Qasim into a faculty of engineering, including the departments of electrical engineering, computer sciences, mechanical engineering and civil engineering; the merging of the department of physics and the department of astronomy at King Saud University into one department of physics and astronomy; the establishment of a department of translation at the Institute of English Language and Translation at King Khaled University.

Dr Al-Anqari said that the Council of Higher Education had approved some of the statutes of the institutions of higher education, including the statute of the student funds. He said the King’s approval of these resolutions reflects the great concern he accords to the Kingdom’s education sector.
