Jiddah, 1st February 2003

The Ministry of Information has mobilized all of its potential and manpower to provide coverage of this year’s Hajj.

The Assistant Minister of Information, Prince Turki Bin Sultan Bin Abdul-Aziz, said that invitations have been extended to the official information media in Arab and Islamic states and friendly countries. Several Arab and foreign satellite television channels and international news agencies have also been invited to record Hajj coverage. All necessary arrangements for receiving media delegations, and providing them with required facilities, have been completed.

Work teams have been formed and information centres have been established at Makkah, Madinah and the holy sites. Field visits for media teams have been planned, so that they may see the great expansion carried out at the Two Holy Mosques, the projects at the holy sites, and the utilities and facilities extended by the Saudi government in service of the pilgrims.

Prince Turki Bin Sultan said that Saudi Radio has prepared programs on Hajj, which will be transmitted on the general program, the Holy Quran service, Nida-ul-Islam (the Call of Islam), Program-2, Hajj awareness service, and the other sections of the radio. These will be transmitted in various languages, including English, French, Urdu, Indonesian, Turkish, Persian, Swahili, Bengali, Somali and Turkistani.

All necessary arrangements have been made for the live telecast and radio transmission of Hajj rituals to Arab, Islamic and friendly countries.

Prince Turki bin Sultan said that information centres in Makkah, Jiddah, Madinah and at the Hajj terminal have been equipped with international information terminals. “From 19 January, newspaper supplements in Persian, Malawi and French are being distributed to pilgrims. The supplements will continue until 21 February,” he added. The Ministry of Information has set up 300 outlets for distribution of the publications, which include religious, cultural, and awareness books, and the newspaper supplements.
