The Foreign Minister, Prince Saud Al-Faisal, who is currently visiting the United Kingdom, today held separate talks with British Prime Minister Tony Blair, Foreign Minister Jack Straw, and Baronet Simons.
Prince Saud discussed developments regarding the Iraq issue with Blair earlier today at 10 Downing St. Following the meeting, Prince Saud told reporters: “We are all seeking to find solutions to the Iraq issue, and to evade military action. This requires cooperation from the Iraqi side with the Security Council on the one hand, and specific stipulations for action by the Security Council to avoid negative impact on Iraqi integrity and regional sovereignty on the other.”
Prince Turki Al-Faisal, the Saudi Ambassador to the United Kingdom and Ireland, and a number of British officials attended the meeting.
Prince Saud later met with Jack Straw at the Foreign Office. Following the meeting, the Saudi Foreign Minister said that his talks with the Foreign Minister were a continuation to the talks he held with Blair earlier, particularly with regard to the Iraqi issue.
Prince Saud said that he had conveyed a message from Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz and Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz, Deputy Premier and Commander of the National Guard, to the British Premier. Blair requested that a message be conveyed from him to the monarch and the Crown Prince, Saud Al-Faisal told reporters.
Later, Prince Saud conferred with Baronet Simons, Secretary of State for International Trade Affairs. They discussed bilateral relations between the two countries and matters of mutual concern.
