27Jan2003 King Fahd awarded ALESCO medal

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz on Sunday received a Gold Medal, which was presented to him by the Arab League Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ALESCO), in recognition of his services to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Arab and Muslim countries. A citation for the Medal said that King Fahd is considered one of the most distinguished leaders in history who has worked to set up Arab and Islamic development projects.

The Medal was presented to King Fahd by the Minister of Education, Dr Mohammed Al-Rasheed, on behalf of the President of ALESCO, Dr Al-Munji Bu-Sunainah.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Al-Rasheed said that this Medal is a gift of appreciation for numerous acts by King Fahd through his wise policies to bring brothers together on many occasions, which have led to fruitful results and beneficial consequences.

“King Fahd has actively participated in the spreading of knowledge by establishing schools and universities and creating learning opportunities for all across the Kingdom,” he added. “Today we can see the fruits of his efforts, after half a century’s work to establish a strong base for education and science by reforming the Ministry of Education.”

King Fahd expressed his appreciation for being honoured with this Medal. He wished the Minister of Education and the President of ALESCO continuous progress and success.

The reception was attended by Prince Abdul-Rahman bin Abdul Aziz, Deputy Minister of Defence and Aviation; Prince Saud bin Fahd bin Abdul Aziz, Vice President of General Intelligence; Prince Abdul Aziz bin Fahd bin Abdul Aziz, Minister of State, Member of Cabinet and President of the Cabinet’s Presidency, and a number of princes, ministers and high-ranking officials.
