25Jan2003 Saudi Embassy in Washington issues clarification

Washington, 25th January 2003

The Saudi Embassy in Washington described a report of Al-Jazeerah Satellite Channel attributed to Prince Bandar bin Sultan bin Abdul Aziz, the Saudi Ambassador to the United States, as “fabricated and baseless”.

The Embassy pointed out that the discussion in which Prince Bandar participated expressed the view that all heavenly religions advocate peace and love, but some followers commit practices that run counter to the teachings of these heavenly religions. Prince Bandar was of the view that it would be a gross mistake to attack or insult any of these religions due to the wrong practices of some of their followers. He said that the history of mankind has witnessed how some use the cover of religion to fight for other goals.

During the discussion, Prince Bandar recalled the formation of inspection courts in Spain in the past that forced Christian Protestants and Jews to flee to the Muslims in Morocco because they were fully confident that Muslims would respect the followers of the other heavenly religions, and would behave in a tolerant and just manner towards them.
