Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz received President Mohammed Hosni Mubarak of Egypt and his accompanying delegation at Al-Yamamah Palace in Riyadh today. The King and the President held a meeting.
On the Saudi side, the meeting was attended by Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz, Deputy Premier and Commander of the National Guard; Prince Abdulrahman bin Abdul Aziz, Deputy Minister of Defence and Aviation and Inspector General; Prince Salman bin Abdul Aziz, Governor of Riyadh Region; Prince Ahmed bin Abdul Aziz, Deputy Minister of The Interior; Prince Turki Al-Faisal, Saudi Ambassador-Designate to the United Kingdom; Prince Saud bin Fahd bin Abdul Aziz, Deputy Chief of General Intelligence; Prince Abdul Aziz bin Fahd bin Abdul Aziz, Minister of State, Member of Cabinet and Chief of the Court of the Cabinet’s Presidency, and senior officials.
On the Egyptian side, the meeting was attended by Safwat Al-Sherif, the Minister of Information; a number of senior officials accompanying the President, and the Egyptian Ambassador to the Kingdom, Mohammed Rafiq.
Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz, Deputy Premier and Commander of the National Guard, also held a meeting at his palace here today with President Mohammed Hosni Mubarak of Egypt.
On the Saudi side, the meeting was attended by Prince Abdulrahman bin Abdul Aziz, Deputy Minister of Defence and Aviation and Inspector General; Prince Mit’eb bin Abdul Aziz, the Minister of Public Works and Housing; Prince Nawaf bin Abdul Aziz, the Chief of General Intelligence; Prince Salman bin Abdul Aziz, the Governor of Riyadh Region; Prince Saud Al-Faisal, the Foreign Minister and Prince Sattam bin Abdul Aziz, the Vice Governor of Riyadh Region.
On the Egyptian side, Safwat Al-Sherif, the Minister of Information, a number of senior officials accompanying the President, and the Egyptian Ambassador to the Kingdom, Mohammed Rafiq, attended the meeting.
The two sides discussed the dangerous situation in the region, and expressed their extreme concern over the development of events and consequences for the international community if military action against Iraq ensues. To save the Iraqi people from the detrimental consequences of military confrontation, they called on all parties to pursue a peaceful solution, within the framework of UN international legitimacy, and Iraq’s commitment to implement the relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
The two sides emphasized the importance of the role of the United Nations in implementing Security Council resolutions to maintain security and stability in the region and promote international peace and security.
They also exchanged views on Israel’s intransigent position and brutal practices against the Palestinian people in occupied territories, indicating the danger of the continued, negative Israeli stance to impede progress towards revival of the peace process, whilst Arab parties continue to pursue means to deter acts of violence and tackle their root causes.
The two sides expressed hope that the meetings currently underway in Egypt between Palestinian representatives will yield a unified Palestinian stance which recognizes the reforms carried out by the Palestinian Authority.
They exchanged views on the efforts exerted to develop the principles of Arab cooperation and solidarity, to serve the interests of the Arab nation, enhance confidence in Arab coordination, and emphasize the credibility of Arab decisions that enhance the nation’s dignity, maintain its legitimate rights, and stress its ability to confront challenges.
