Tunis, 13th January 2003

The Saudi Interior Minister, Prince Naif bin Abdul Aziz, has expressed hope that the 20th Conference of Arab Interior Ministers, which commences in Tunis later today, would yield positive results.

Prince Naif, who arrived in Tunis on Sunday evening, said: “There is a dire need to resolve global issues in a rational manner.” Prince Naif is heading the Kingdom’s delegation to the session. He is Honorary President of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers, and he will also chair a joint meeting of Arab Interior and Information Ministers, due to be held in Tunis on Wednesday.

In a statement to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), Prince Naif said that during the joint meeting with Arab Ministers of Information, the Arab Interior Ministers would not endeavour to impede freedom of information. “The primary goal of this joint meeting is to bring about an agreement that serves the Arab nation in these critical times. Attention of the international community is now being directed towards the Arab world, which faces a number of contemporary problems such as the issues of terrorism, Palestine, and Iraq. We are seeking to integrate information projects, both internally and externally.”

Prince Naif expressed his wish that the Arab Interior Ministers would reach a rational understanding, particularly on security issues, including a strategy to combat terrorism.

On arrival at Tunis International Airport, Prince Naif and his accompanying delegation were welcomed by the Tunisian Minister of The Interior and Local Development, Al-Hadi Mahani, and a number of other officials. Prince Naif’s accompanying delegation includes Undersecretary at the Interior Ministry, Dr Ahmed Al-Salim, Special Advisor to the Interior Minister, Dr Abdel-Rahman Al-Jammaz, and other senior officials.
