12Jan2003 Interior Ministry office follows up Saudi detainees’ affairs

Demonstrating Saudi leaders’ care for their citizens, the directives of prince Naif bin Abdul Aziz, the Interior Minister, established an office to follow up the affairs of all Saudi citizens detained in the United States of America, Guantanamo Bay, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Chechnya and other countries, search for missing citizens, and contact their families and assure them of efforts exerted by Saudi leaders to repatriate detainees to Saudi Arabia and try them before the Kingdom’s courts.

In a statement to Saudi Press Agency (SPA), Director General of Relations and Guidance of the Interior Ministry, Dr Saud bin Salih Al-Mosaibeeh said that the office is following up all consequences of 11 September and their effects on Saudi citizens abroad, in cooperation with relevant authorities that, in turn, communicate with countries and international organizations.

Dr Al-Mosaibeeh said that the office is in direct contact with the families of detained and missing citizens on the telephone number 4014980, and works to answer their questions and resolve any difficulties that arise, in accordance with directives of the Interior Minister and his deputies.

Dr Al-Mosaibeeh said that the office recently worked to enable receipt of letters from detainees in Guantanamo Bay and deliver them to their families, who were able to send a number of letters to their sons via the office.
