06Jan2003 Shoura Council stresses need to reduce public debt

Riyadh, 6th January 2003

The Shoura Council stressed the need for cutting public debt, in accordance with a program that will lead to a 60% reduction of gross domestic product over ten years.

In a regular session held here today, presided over by Chairman of the Council, Sheikh Dr Salih Homaid, the Council approved linking the budget’s programs and appropriations with goals and priorities approved in the Seventh Development Plan.

Following the session, Secretary General of the Council, Dr Homood Al-Badr, told the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) that the Council approved creating the regulations, incentives and facilities necessary to attract the private sector to participate in developments.
