The 20th session of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers will open on Monday, 13 January 2003, under the patronage of the Tunisian President, Zine-al-Abdine bin Ali. The meeting, which a number of Arab Interior Ministers and senior security officials will attend, will review the means of enhancing Arab security.
On behalf of Tunisian President Zine-al-Abdine bin Ali, the Tunisian Interior Minister, Dr Al-Hadi Mahani, will address the inaugural session.
The inaugural session will also be addressed by Prince Naif bin Abdul Aziz, the Saudi Interior Minister and Honorary President of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers, and Dr Mohammed bin Ali Koman, Secretary General of the Council.
The agenda of the session includes a report presented by Prince Naif bin Abdul Aziz, who is also Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Riyadh-based Naif Arab Academy for Security Sciences, on the activities of the Academy and its role in the development of security cadres Arab countries. It also includes an in-depth review of issues pertaining to the Arab security strategy, the Arab strategy for combating terrorism and drugs, and the Arab strategy for traffic safety.
The session will debate issues pertaining to a draft of the Arab Agreement for Combating Corruption, which includes proposed means of combating various forms of economic crime, organized crime, illegal trade of drugs, money laundering, and other related topics.
